Butterfly

Did you know that butterfly came from breaststroke. The kick consists of an up and down motion and is kind of a cross of a mermaid kick and a dolphin kick. It is actually called the dolphin kick. They are very small, very fast kicks in which you keep your legs and feet together and move them up and down. With the pull you need to make sure to lead with your wrists when you recover. When you pull down through your thigh you make an S figure with your left arm and a backwards S figure with your right arm with your elbows slightly bent. Then you snap through to your thigh from about half way through. When you recover you bring your arms out of the water and lead with your wrists and then when they are stretched out you put them back in the water keeping your elbows strait the entire time of recovery. When you do the entire stroke make sure to have only 2 dolphin kicks per stroke, 1 when your hands enter the water and 1 when your hands leave the water.

Front Crawl or Freestyle

If you don't know how to do this stroke this might help you a little.

Each arm stroke has been divided into 5 phases: (1) the entry and stretch (2) the down sweep (3) the catch (4) the insweep, and (5) the upsweep and recovery. Where the relations between armstrokes and leg kicks are concerned, swimmers use a variety of rhythms. The six-beat rhythm is most widely used . In it they use six whole leg beats during each stroke cycle. A complete leg beat includes both an upbeat and a downbeat. Other combinations of kick per stroke cycle are the two-beat, two-beat crossover, four-beat, and four-beat crossover rhythms.

Dry-Land Time

As you might know dry-land is basically stretching. But it is really important so I will be including some of the stretches I do. I will do Dry-Land Time about once or twice a week. I will also include the name of the stretch and how to do it.


MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS
You get into push- up position (shoulders and hands should be parallel,und and elbows strait). Then you basically hop with one foot once and your foot should be parallel with your knee. Then you keep doing that alternating legs every one hop. But keep in mind, you have to keep your hands on the ground during this stretch.

My name is Kendyl. I swim year round. And I love salad. I used to play volley ball, then I started to swim every day, but I had to stop. I have been swimming since I was 5 or 6 years old. That's pretty much it. Now you know me.

All Stars

All Stars is the championship swim meet for tri-county swim league. You have to be one of the top 10 swimmers in your age group. It is normally held on a Saturday in July. Last season it was on July 18, 2009. You can also get in the newspaper. The bad part is if your team hosts the meet you are the first warm-up and normally the meet starts at 7am and it takes almost 2 hours to get everything set up and get every one warmed-up. Also my mom had to set up in the morning so i had to be at the pool at 4:30am I was tired I mean any body would be. When the meet starts we do the National Anthem and do the graduated relays. Then you do Butterfly. Next it's Freestyle. Then it's off to Breaststroke. Finally, Backstroke and then the Individual Medleys. Then you do the relays for your age group. The one thing weird about this is ageing up. Say your birthday is June 5 and you are turning 13 you would still be in 12 and under for the rest of the season. So you could be 15 and swimming with 14 year olds.

what Kendyl's Corner is about

Heyy my name is Kendyl and this is my blog. My blog will be about swimming, diving, and volley ball.
I love to swim. If you swim for a swim team you might do dry land. This may sound wierd but sometimes dry land is the most important thing for swimming. Also when you are swimming you can get dehydrated. So keep in mind that you need to drink fluids while you are swimming.
Winter swim team just started and there are a lot of meets up ahead of you folks. Especially if you are really good.
Diving is a really awesome sport. Personally I like the spring board the best but platform is okay.
Volley ball is awesome too. I love playing the left foward.
I will also be up dating my blog regurally.
